Mikoyan MiG – 29, a 4th-generation jet fighter aircraft, was designed in the Soviet Union for an air superiority role. An Indian estimation team evaluated the MiG-29 aircraft during November/December 1980 and found it suitable for the intended role. The Indian Air Force was the first international air force to purchase and employ the MiG-29 as a supersonic fighter jet.
